You always need a modem to connect the source internet to your router. You cannot plug a fiber optic source directly into a router. You can connect the Orbi directly to your modem via CAT cable. Recommend Cat 6 or 7 since the fiberoptics should be supplying you with high-speed internet.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I hooked up my Orbi base station directly to my FiOS Modem with a Cat5 patch cable, and then connected Cat5 Ethernet cables for my hardwired computers. The satellite went into the office, and I hooked up other computers to the satellite via Cat5. The transfer speeds are pretty amazing, and WiFi coverage is great
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Orbi system does not include a modem for connecting to Cable/Fiber internet directly. You'll need to get a modem first to connect directly to your cat 5 cable then connect the modem to your Orbi. The FAQ on the site mentions it directly: Ready Right Out of the Box Compatible with your internet service provider (ISP). Just connect to your modem to create high-speed WiFi for your whole home.
