Yes, you have the option of running the Orbi router system alongside your existing router in Access Point mode. Instructions for setting up the Orbi in AP mode are located beginning on page 76 of the User Manual: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/rbk50.aspx?cid=wmt_netgear_organic#docs

I would recommend using the orbi router with the satellites for the best results. If not I believe you have to set the Orbi in bridge mode I believe.

You can choose your own router, with your gateway, but you'll need to switch your gateway to bridge mode. This is true for any router that you decide to purchase with your gateway.

You should just disable the WiFi on the current router

Don’t really know, but the Google unit is Dual band and very effective for you to consider.
