Hello Terry, the red blinking light means that there is something interfering with the communication between your 2 devices. There may be something like a surge protector or some other device with a motor in the near by area. The devices should be plugged into wall outlets, but in my case I didn't have a wall outlet close enough to my router, so I had to plug the device into the surge protector. It still works fine, but I believe mine blinks from green to red because I have one of them plugged into the surge protector. The red color indicates that the link rate at is < 50 mb/s or less, and when it is green, the link rate is > 80 mb/s . As I previously mentioned, the blinking red light has not negatively affected my streaming TV service, but you may be able to try moving your device to a different outlet and see if the red blinking light can be eliminated.

Reception strength of the plugs through the electrical wiring of the house. Red slowest, then amber, the green the fastest.

Your not getting your ethernet signal through. is there other devices on power line?

It just means the signal is a little weaker than using full strength nothing to worry about as it will still perform very well.

Mine does the same. Red means it's under 50 MBS Green means greater than 80MBS. Probably to far from away or need to try another outlet.
