A:AnswerIt depends on many factors. By default, our products are set to motion record, meaning they will only record when the cameras sense motion within the detection area. How long it takes the hard drive to become full depends on: 1) the size of the hard drive, 2) how many cameras are connected, 3) the recording resolution the cameras are set to, 4) the environment where the cameras are installed (how much traffic they detect) and 5) the recording setting for each camera ( motion, continuous, time schedule, etc...). A:AnswerAs long as you have it connected to the Internet, there is an app for your smartphone or for the computer that you can use to view your cameras. This takes some initial configuration and setting up an account with nightowl, which is free.
You can also set it up to do notifications based on alerts for movement etc.
All configuration for the box has to be done on the DVR itself with a monitor attached and mouse, so make sure you have everything configured the way you want it, before you leave it.
Overall I'm pretty happy with it.
A:AnswerNo, that is not recommended. If you point the cameras through glass, you will have a very degraded image. Additionally, at night, when the LEDs activate for Night Vision, you will experience more distortion with the image. To detect events outside, it is recommended you install the cameras outside.
