The 10x42 size binoculars will give you the same reach you need as the 12x50 size but are more convenient to carry as they are lighter in weight. The 10x42 also allows for less eye-strain than the 12x50. Both of these binoculars would be a great choice as they each provide the magnification reach for the distance you are asking about.
