The answer is subjective. There will be more bokeh (blurry background) with the 1.4 vs 1.8 when shooting from the same distances. Watch a YouTube video comparison to see the difference in pictures and see which one you prefer. The 1.4 will bring your subject more into focus with the increased bokeh but it may be too much for your liking.
