“I'm a beginner, i want to capture my son in sports, daughter in dance, birthday parties, everyday life, occasional family photos, what camera would you suggest for me, D5500 or the D3400? and is the Nikon - AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8 lens compatible?”

i have d3400 and it has the sports, and moving pic gudes on the camera. i love this camera.

One major difference is that the Nikon D5500 has a vari-angle touch screen and an eye sensor control option. The Nikon D3400 does not have those options, however, it does have a helpful feature for users who are new to DSLR called "Guide Mode". This mode actually helps teach you how to take a great image by offering easy and useful tips. Both these cameras offer Scene Sports Mode which allows you to take images continuously at a fast shutter speed to freeze movement in it's tracks, so that you don't miss any of the action. In addition they each offer a wide variety of scenes, special effects and in-camera editing tools. Either one of these two cameras would make for a great start to begin recording the amazing moments of your family life.
