Yes, the excellent auto focus system, high ISO performance, superior metering white balance, APS-C crop factor and tilting rear display make the D500 excellent for macro photography. The best lens depends on your subjects and your budget of course. I have the 60mm for flowers and Portraits.

We would recommend looking into the AF-S DX Micro-NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G Macro Lens or the AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm F2.8G ED Lens.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It can be used as a macro photography body. You can also use any macro lens for Nikon F mount on it. Just keep one thing in mind. If you put a full frame (FX) lens on it, you will have a crop factor of 1.5x for the lens. For instance, you use a Tamron 90mm f2.8 Macro lens on this body, you will get the effective focal length of 135mm instead of 90. The Nikkor 105mm micro would be a 157-158mm.
