A:Answer It does not use the little plastic "pods", but like they're saying, it WILL make a single cup. On the dial, you choose whether you want a small, regular, or XL cup to be filled. The burner will stay off for these choices. There is also a pull-down "shelf" to put a small cup on, so it's closer to the stream of coffee. That way it won't splatter. We love our machine!!!! We've had it for a year now and use it every day.
