No, you don't. The Switch comes with two (2) Joy Con controllers that charge when attached to the Switch console, while the console is in the charging dock. The Switch also comes with a non-powered grip you can attach the Joy Cons to - looks just like this one, except it doesn't have power. It just lets you use the two Joy Cons as a single controller. The charging grip just lets you charge the Joy Cons without having them be attached to the Switch console, and you can even have them charging with the cord while you're using them as a single controller. Also handy to charge additional Joy Cons simultaneously (if you have more than two).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, you don't need this, but if you only have 1 set of the Joy-Cons, it's nice to have so you don't have to leave the whole Switch w/Joy-Cons attached to charge. If you have multiple sets of Joy-Cons, the other standalone charger would be a better bet. If you don't use the Joy-Cons at all due to having a Pro Controller, well this is pointless.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you purchase a 2nd set of Joy Cons I think this grip is must have for the charging capabilities.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. Its the same grip that comes with the Switch but with the charging ability.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Your don't need it at all. The joycons can charge directly off the Switch or attached to a separate charger. however, if you do like a joycon mount this is a nice way to turn your joycons into a more traditional joystick as well as provide a way to charge them quickly.
