If you've got subscriptions to Hulu, Netflix, Disney+, or any other streaming services and are okay with using those you can access them via the Shield.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I cut the cord in February 2020. No more cable or satellite bills. Ever!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Android TV devices like Shield offer access to many streaming services (Hulu, Netflix, HBO Now, Disney +, etc.) through convenient app interfaces, but your access to content is limited to what those services provide. Some, like Hulu Plus or YouTube TV, offer "live" TV network broadcasts, which work fine as far as that goes, but their channel lineups are often more limited and/or more expensive to subscribe than through your cable provider. I had PlayStation Vue when it first launched, and and it was terrific at $40/mo, but then they dropped all the Viacom networks, and then they raised the price, and then they went out of business. So, it all depends on what you like about the stuff you are getting from cable. If it's just a handful of shows, you can probably get them (ad free, on demand even) through one of the streaming services. But if you like a lot of variety, live sports, and some of the more obscure networks, cable will have more at a better price.
