It's tremendously faster than any smart tv option to date. I have a ks8000, which was a 2200 dollar TV the year before - netflix would still crash, youtube wouldn't open up right and there were other small quality of life things that made my premium TV not FEEL premium. This changed it all. It's so much faster, smoother and I can even use it with my security camera.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Some smart tv's don't have certain apps. The Shield TV is Android TV is a major streaming device. It also allows you to play video games hosted by a remote server that is much more powerful than a local video game box. The Shield TV is quite powerful and plays back video without skipped frames compared to usually under powered cpus in many smart tv's.

If it's a 4K TV, does that TV support 4K resolutions in the app of choice or will it just be streaming HD and then upscaling it? This is by far the best media streamer that I have come across, but you also have to care about specifications and squeezing that extra bit of quality out of those streams. To the casual user they would have no reason to purchase this over the use of their smart tv. A smart tv won't have the game streaming component of the device but if gaming isn't going to be it's use that is nullified.
