Great for Streaming Media and for Nest Cam

Lots of bells and whistles for using as a media server but the games I dont prefer and both remotes require time to get used too. The roku remote is what I am used too and prefer over the nvidia shield and the navigation on the roku too is more user friendly. However the nvidia shield is cool as I can call up my nest cameras to the big screen by google assistant. However the roku I can use the xfinity app and I cant on the nvidia shield. Infact I can't even chromecast the xfinity to the nvida shield as comcast blocks it. The nvidia shield is better then the roku but it kinda leaves ya hanging with a few apps I wish worked with the Nvidia shield. Whats really cool as the Nvidia Shields screen conversion turns all my chosen shows and games to to 4k where even my smart tv didn't. Nor the roku I have. I just wish the remotes were better and more practical.

This is my first attempt at a review. I may leave a few things out, so I apologize in advance.
So far, I'm loving this unit and what it can do. It runs on the Android 7.0 Nougat operating software and it is powerful and fast. It allows streaming of live television, movies, and music with surround sound and 4K HDR if you have the kind of television, receiver, and high speed internet for those options. If you need more memory other than the internal 16 Gigabytes storage, it has 2 USB 3.0 slots for thumb / hard drives and other devices.
With access to the Google Play Store, there are so many apps to choose from. Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu, etc. If you use Kodi, it is awesome to use on the Nvidia Shield TV.
It comes with a game controller and a remote controller. Both have a microphone that allows for voice searches versus the on screen keyboard. The remote takes a little time getting used to. It doesn't have many choices to navigate the screen. It took me a while to get used to. There is a remote app for the device that you can download for Android and iOS devices, but they are a little buggy, especially the keyboard option.
This device is also made for gaming. Unfortunately, I have not tried using it for games yet, so I can't really review that feature. There are a large selection to choose from though, including some of the popular console (XBOX 360 , XBOX ONE, PLAYSTATION 3 & 4) and PC.

I piddled around with Roku, Raspberry Pi and a laptop. The Roku II I've had for a couple of years and it does the "channels" job nicely. My goal was KODI, though, and the Pi was always freezing up (reboot!) and the laptop (thin model) worked better but shutting down then reopening the lid to start her up again was getting to be a pain. You can put the Nvidia Shield TV to sleep and press any button to wake her up again. Although the Nvidia Shield TV comes in at the $200 mark, you do get a great yoke-style game control along with its simpler, smaller remote with just a few buttons but it makes life so much easier in the KODI <> scroll world. So I figured I paid $100 for the box (Roku price range} and the other $100 for the fine controls and got a lot of expand-ability (Android-based apps from Google), add a storage drive (or go for the $300 model built in!) . . . If you have a SmartTV already, you might not need any of these. If you have an HDTV just pre-Smart like mine, the Nvidia Shield TV has more horsepower to keep the stream flowing, And Nvidia has been producing top notch video cards for years so they have the tech down! If you're strapped for cash, maybe go Firestick (for KODI) or Roku. If you have the cash, Nvidia Shield TV is a better choice!

I have several streaming devices and the Shield is way, way above and beyond any I've used. If you stream a lot of content, this is the one you want. It's very fast and will easily handle anything you throw at it, so long as your internet is capable. I didn't even mention the gaming capabilities. Five stars!

I own a Roku, Chromecast (1st gen) and now an Invidia Sheild. This is by far my favorite streaming device that I have owned. It does what the others do (it has the newest version of Chromecast with Google Assistant built in) plus you can stream PC games to play on your television. I'm a causal gamer so this device is perfect for me. Plus it's tiny. It barely takes up any room. I highly recommend it. Note that you will need a good internet connection for streaming the games.

I've had experience with many streaming boxes but I got to say the Nvidia Shield is the best box of them all I hardly run into a problem The Shield runs flawlessly and does everything I want it to do. If you want a streaming box you can depend on the shield is your pick it is worth every penny. I am the proud owner of 2 of these ultimate boxes and use them everyday for all my gaming and streaming needs!

The Shield does cost the most of all steaming devices but quality costs. The device is easy to setup and lightning fast if you have the right internet speed. The device works with all the apps I wanted including the basics (Netflix, Hulu, YouTube), it also was easy to install Kodi, a VPN, and an IPTV service. If you're a gamer it has a ton of available free/purchase games which are easy to play with the comfortable ergonomic controller.

Let me start by saying I really enjoyed the box while it lasted. I bought the 2015 model back in May of 2016. Yes it is out of the 1 year warranty.... however, I expected a box of this name and price to last more than 1.5 years.
After many attempts to do every hard reset trick there is, I contacted Nvidia customer support and was told they would look into it and would get back with me in a few days. I sent them pictures of the box, model and receipt. I have called back in the last few weeks to check on an answer and finally got the "Sorry, you're out of your year warrant reason".
I wasn't expecting to get a brand new 2017 model or even a free box period. Buy I thought they would at least work with me.... maybe even get me a discounted model..... something. So this will be a lesson for me. Some companies go above and beyond to keep customers happy, and some do the bare minimum. Luckily I still have a 3 year old ROKU that works like the day I bought it. I will be more careful how I spend my money in the future.

I'm stunned how a little Android TV like this can pack so much punch!
What I love:
- Small
- no noise what so ever
- comes with a remote and gamepad
- quick, responsive
- It plays local files and files over my network, EVERY format I THROW AT IT!
- How it was shipped (the packaging), the box, the experience
- Pairing any type of external peripheral devices was a total Breeze (Rii i8+ Bluetooth Mini Keyboard, and Xbox 360 Controller)
- It's a futureproof box. I do not see myself changing this anytime soon, and I don't even have a 4k tv yet!
What I like:
- The software it comes preloaded with!
- The quality of streaming - YouTube, Netflix, Amazon, Kodi! (Video)
- The community (help, tutorials and more)
- Playing my classic Emulated Games
- Cord cutting all in one replacement (I flushed my cable service provided TV and replaced it with the Shield and Antenna)
- The price for what you get. It may seem steep, but when you actually see what you get for $200 it's a decent deal
- The remote seams cheap at 1st, but it really is top quality, even compared to a PS4 remote
- Game selection is good
What could be better:
- The interface (OS) of the shield it a bit clunky in my opinion
- this box can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be, and when things get complex, you got to know what you are doing.
- My Wife cannot use this when she wants to show something to our kids
- Not as many compatible apps form Google I would have liked.
- I found GeForcenow to be a good selling point, but in realty I do not use it that much... The experience is stable but you need a very good internet connection, and the games are a bit dated. I rather play my emulators, but that might be just me.
Get this box if : You want a fantastic streaming cord cutting futureproof machine !!!
You will not regret it!
It's an All in one package for a good price!
$200 is a hefty sum, but think about it, you just cut $80-100/ month on Television, you will pay this back in no time!

I've been through all the recent models of major Streaming TV type devices. Amazon Fire, Roku Ultra, and my Sony TV with AndroidTV.
I already liked the "Smart" interface for the Sony TV, but it was sluggish and somewhat buggy. For example, I had to sign into Plex Every.Time.I.Logged.in. Not cool...
I purchased a Shield TV and man, it's sooo much smoother than the built in experience in the TV. No lag, none of the bugs and a lot more options like streaming games from from my PC.
I'll rank this solution at the top of my list. Amazon Fire TV second, and Roku a distant last..
I do think the remote on the Shield TV could use 1 or 2 more buttons. I actually use a Fire Stick remote. A big con is that Comcast does not support HBO Go on AndroidTV. That's not the fault of Shield TV though.

I've owned a couple of different streamers, Fire TV, Chromecast (junk), and bought this one to give as a gift. Thought I'd try it first. Well, now the gift will be my Fire TV as I'm keeping the Shield.
High-quality picture; much faster; does everything you want a streaming box to do.
Not a game player, but that's available as well.
Easy setup.
Ease of use.
One caveat is that the menu isn't that "sortable".
But, as it runs on the Android operating system, it runs just about every app under the sun.
Highly recommend.
It's ready for my next upgrade to 4K.
Sleek and unintrusive in design.
A little costly, but worth every penny.

The Shield is awesome in many ways. Streaming and Gaming are just a few major ones. You can do a lot with this little box. The remote and gaming console are very sensitive. Just moving them or touching them can start up the shield. Definitely buy a Rii remote for it. Not angamer, but Gaming is better than anticipated. Kids love it. Access all your streaming services seamlessly. Can't be lazy with this one. Definitely access developer options to optimize performance. Makes a noticeable difference. No droid boxes or fire products compare. Best in class.

I went with the Shield on my main TV and moved my Amazon Fire into the bedroom. The Shield is fast and has the Google App Store. Does a lot of things and is 4K even though I don’t have 4K yet. The controls are easy and setup is also easy. Works with the Harmony Hub. Great device overall. Game controller also feels solid.

For comparison, i have a basic roku stick, as well as the new 3rd generation fire tv, which i purchased after the shield tv, and is why i knocked a star off...but i will get to why. I have a new samsung 4k hdr qled tv, so i'm able to fully use the potential of the shield. I use ps vue for my main tv service, but also have netflix, amazon, and hulu. Vue is horrible on the roku, so i didnt consider trying the higher end versions to compare. From what i have seen, nothing touches the shield for speed and video quality. The currently top of the line fire tv looks downright "soft", and is notably more laggy. I would think the fire would be great if i didnt have the shield to compare. the biggest difference is in regular HD content(like vue), where the shield just seems to have far superior upconversion, and just looks much sharper. The gaming ability with their $7.99/month geforce now service works very well, with a diverse selection of games. I did not purchase for the gaming service, but am currently subscribed, because it works well, and is a good value. Shortly after purchase, there was an update, which made the remote keep disconnecting(really annoying), but a new update that fixed it followed shortly, so kudos for frequent updates and fixes. The reason i took a star off, and purchased the fire, is app support. This will vary for people depending on what services they want and use. It uses the google store for android tv, which just isnt up to par. Biggies for me were the CW and Boomerang. Maybe these apps are coming soon, but I had to get a separate device for now. The shield is an amazing device. It's fast, smooth, and sharp, and i'd recommend it to anyone and everyone, but make sure you check for app support first. Just because an app may be in the google store for phones, does not mean they have an android tv version. i tried "side loading" the phone versions, and they looked and worked horribly.

Great for playing files from a drive or YouTube. It can easily play casual games and emulators. I haven't tried any PC game stuff yet though. I love the game controller. The volume buttons on the remote can be weird but I made the volume static so it doesn't change.

I absolutely love the shield android box & video game controller. No need to purchase the controller if you already own PS4 or Xbox 1 because you can use those controllers for this tv box.
It’s easy to use & setup is a breeze, if you need help there are plenty of videos out there to heft you started.
I was not impressed with the remote because of the placement of the volume control right in the middle I tend to bump it when using the remote for all of the other functions. I prefer to have the main button in the center of the controller & have the other buttons up top. The remote does not light up in the dark but that is minor because of the few buttons on the remote. The batteries are also replaceable which is a nice touch.
I would prefer that a wireless keyboard be an option to buy rather than the remote. I would suggest that the keyboard lights up, talk to text, & has replaceable batteries.
I purchased the shield without the controller & latter was offered the package with the controller for the same price. The bad part of this was that I had to order the box on line. Usually that’s not a problem however this product was not available for pickup in store & had to be delivered to my house. Normally I wouldn’t care but I had to go to the store to return the other one & saw they had the one I ordered in stock. I asked if they would just do the exchange in store & my request was not accommodated. Waste of both Best Buy & mine time & money.

You can watch TV and movies and play games too. Comes with game remote and reg. remote. I found this to be the best deal ever, I got it on sale for $170. It is easy to set up and once it was setup it automatically updated to latest software and surprisingly it added google assistant.
I love before going to bed asking Google to shut off television without having to look all over for the remotes.
The Nvidia Shield is the best android media player that there is, do your research like I did. Its fast, and very important it gets upgrades . I do recommend that with the 16 gb version you invest in a external HDD. The remotes are nice and comfortable to hold. I do wish there were silicon or rubber on game remote can be a bit slippery. The tv remote is sturdy but small, wish it included a mouse feature.
