I recently purchased the Nvidia Shield for cord cutting purposes with the occasional game to play here and there. While I expected it to be a basic media player, this far exceeded my expectations. you can play so many games it's incredible. With the addition of the Google play store, I find myself playing more retro games, than watching TV. Also, as far as the media is concerned (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc) it's perfect! I can easily watch any of my shows with a few clicks. It's very easy to operate and pretty straight forward. Great for beginners, or experts as it's easily tweak-able as well. Overall, I will be buying another (even with it's higher price tag) and do not see myself needing any other media streaming device in my future. If you're on the fence about getting one, let me assist and tell you to go ahead and take the plunge. You will not regret it! Best purchase this year! PS: I was not paid or got the item free or anything. Just wanted to share my honest opinion.
TLDR: Buy it, it's expensive but well worth the price tag! Last media center you'll need.

I cut the cord and have been trying several streaming devices. I like Apple TV the best so far, but I must disclose we pretty much have an Apple home. Macs, iPhones, iPads. Having said that this device does exactly what it is advertised to do and does it well. One thing it does do that my Apple TV device doesn't is 4K. I would imagine someone that lives in the Android world would love this device. I don't dislike it, it just doesn't really do anything that sets it apart - other than being able to put Kodi on there without hacking it like you have to do with other devices. I have a seven year old son that likes to play video games as well so we subscribed to the Nvidia game service. We have a reliable and fast broadband connection and some of the games showed quit a bit of lag - but nonetheless a cool concept and I'm sure the service will get better with time.
In summary - if you're buying it to have a legit Kodi platform it's great. But it really doesn't offer anything that a Smart TV doesn't already provide - except the game play. Does have 16GB storage on board and there is a 500 GB model as well.
If you prefer the Android world as opposed to Apple - this is your device.

Way better than my fire stick. Faster picture quality is better and you can add an external hard drive for additional memory.

I can truly say that this gadget is one of the most exciting and cool thing i bought from many of my purchase. Highly satisfied with it. As you can see high resolution content 4K, HDR Live or any other TV shows. You can install any app from Google play for TV as this is based on Android.
Most exciting part is that you may play very good quality games like Street fighter all seasons, Tomb raider all late 2010 series.
I really love this one and highly highly recommend it to anyone.

Highly recommend this streaming device. Android TV is great, and it has all the apps you could want (YouTube TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Plex, Vudu, etc.). You can load Google Play apps and games (like Jackbox party pack). It streams in 4K, and includes the ability to Google cast. The included controller even makes it possible to listen to the volume via headphones if for some reason you need it to be quiet in the room. I'm highly satisfied with this purchase.

It slices, it dices, it'll raise your kids and make the misses happy as pie! Buy it!
Not really but the history of this product is riddled with many gimmicky faults that much of technology falls under today. Some things which seem like common sense (downloading, full android integration, clean UI and navigation, etc) remain an issue. The problem you will experience though, like me, is no matter how much research you put into this guy you will just have to buy it and experience it for yourself to figure out if this is the one for you.
The nVidia gamestreaming and gaming in general in this device is what I feel is the main selling point here. If you just want to stream then I'd fully recommend AppleTV or Roku then all others as long as they can access the content you're currently committed to. I don't use this for gaming however the gamestreaming feature when done over a hard lined network is great. You won't be doing competitive type games but for casual button smashing it is perfect. Play through the Tell Tale series of whatever it is that fancies you (TWD, GOT, Batman).
My main gripe is the lack of supporting my UV downloads within all apps. With the current cable internet caps we are all stuck in this position where digital streaming is becoming questionable unless we want to pay more money for marketing schemes which existed in the days of Netscape Navigator (Alternative Web Browser most commonly found on Windows 95/98 computers). Then for those of us who share internet, streaming HD or UHD video can be fine with one or two other users in the home but anything after that and you are asking for massive rage-quitting and temper tantrums.
There are many alternate uses for this device due to having a more accessible version of Android than it's competitors on it, which I won't get into, but if you are a more technically inclined person then I will say this will get you by as a cheaper solution than building a dedicated PC but it is not a substitute. We'll get there but for what the product is and the price point, it's a fairly designed and priced concoction.

Don't let the size fool you! This is a pretty powerful and useful streaming device. Compared to the "stick" and the "cast", this is far better. It is faster, have more options and capability. The only not so awesome thing is the gaming controller. It is a bit too sensitive and if you are not careful, you will fast forward or skip a movie easily. It will also become somewhat unresponsive when it needs to be recharged and it is the only way to tell you need to recharge it.

This is the BEST streaming box on the market. It's like a Roku or Apple TV on steroids. But it is not for everyone or even most people. I returned mine.
The short of it is the Nvidia Shield is the fastest streaming box I have ever owned. It came with the ability to stream PC games to my UHD TV and stream games from Nvidia Now! It plays some android games to boot! It plays YouTube in 4k, Netflix, Hulu, Twitch, etc. The controls where terrific and comfortable. The menu system was intuitive and incredibly fast, faster even than my Xbox One X. The included video player easily played UHD video from my Sony camera, when my Roku Ultra and Xbox One X will not. Plus, the inclusion of Google Voice is outstanding and it worked flawlessly...
But I returned the product. Why you might ask if it is so good?
1) I play most of my games on my Xbox One X not my PC.
2) I have a Roku Ultra
3) It costs nearly $200
4) Game streaming works well with the controller but lags too much with Keyboard/Mouse combo.
5) I was unable to play many of the android games previously purchased on other devices.
While I thought it was an awesome piece of tech, the only thing it added for me was game streaming over what I already have. However, I don't play that many PC games and their is a large latency using mouse/keyboard on the Shield TV. I get a better experience just running my 20ft HDMI cable to my TV if I want to game on my PC... which I usually don't, since my Xbox One X produces better UHD quality than my PC (even though I have a GTX 1070).
So, who is the Nvidia Shield for?
- Someone who has a UHD TV, does not have a UHD streaming box and also likes to stream and play PC games using a controller.
- Those who want the best streaming box and don't mind spending the $200 in it.
- Those who have a tremendous about of UHD videos in obscure formats who want to be able to play them on an easily portable device that has a remote.
It's a great product.

I'm a previous firestick owner, I was looking to upgrade. I wasn't prepared for what I got, "Unbelieveable"! No comparison to my fire stick, super fast, super clarity, exceptional gaming experience. No buffing issues, 4K video capable and google voice included. The remote was slim simple and very responsive, This is a excellent product in every way. I would recommend that everyone on the planet get one, it will change the way you watch everything..

The NVIDIA Shield is the best android box for streaming due to it's faster processor. This means that you seldom experience any buffering. It does have a direct ethernet connection port for which I definitely would recommend using versus the wifi component. But you can use it with wifi only as well. You also get the added benefit of having a game console simultaneously, in addition to the best media streaming device. What makes this device extra special is that NVIDIA Shield continues to push updates that works on all of the previous models as well ! That means, your new and older box never feel old or outdated !
The only draw back is the remote, which feels very plastic, slippery, with a very sensitive volume adjustor. However, you can work around that by buying third party remotes that work well and better, and are inexpensive !

This is by far one of the best devices I have bought. Nvidia really did and excellent job. I wish my smartphones were as buttery smooth as the shield is. Is something that you have to experience to understand. I bought this back in 2018 and would buy it again today without hesitation. Not only did Nvidia did a great job on the software side, that to this date it is still the best experience I have had with an Android device, but to this date Nvidia keeps supporting it with Software updates and new features.
I use it mainly to watch Youtube, Netflix, watch TV through their Android TV app (I have a Silicondust HDHomerun Prime), Plex Server, and gaming device. For gaming I use the free Nvidia game streaming service and Native Android game apps.

I bought this to replace a Nexus player that I gave to my daughter. This was probably one of the best purchases I've made in quite a while. Not only does this match all of the Nexus player functions but adds a whole nother level with the added gaming. The specs are off the chart and this makes for one hard to beat device. If you don't have cable and just want to use Netflix and the free channels, you can't go wrong.

Saw this on sale for Black Friday and had to get it for the price. I have the Pro and like everything about it. Though this does not have micro SD slot and only 16GB internal storage, it is still a great media player. I just bought a Sandisk Ultra fit 128GB flash drive to go along with this. It uses Google TV and has all the apps i need except for 1 which it's no a big problem as i use my Xbox One S for that.
