Yes, the Ring works, but the information without the subscription is nearly useless!
Without the subscription, Oura withholds ALL basic source information provided by the Ring.  Instead, Oura only displays "Activity Goal", "Readiness", and "Sleep" scores. 
These scores are nearly useless because they are based upon information provided by the Ring that you will no longer be able to see.  For example, the "Activity Goal" score is based upon your individual goal for steps - but without the subscription, you will no longer be able to see, set, or update this goal!  The "Sleep" score will be based up go-to-bed and wake-up times that may not be correct, but without the subscription, you will have no long have the ability to see that the information is wrong or be able to correct it.
Therefore, if you want to continue to get the promised value from your Ring, you will HAVE to continue the subscription!  This will bring a total three-year cost of the ring up to about $500!! 
Buyer beware!  I bought my ring directly from Oura with a 6-month subscription included.  Now that my subscription has run out, I am very disappointed to find out that there is almost no value to the ring without the subscription.  I would not recommend the Ring unless you plan to pay for the subscription and include the subscription cost in your planned cost of the Ring.

It’s useless without the subscription. The hardware should be free if they wish to pursue a subscription model. I’ve advised all my friends to stay clear of Oura for this reason.

Yes it works but the data is absolutely useless without the monthly membership. If you don’t want to fork out an additional $70 a year on top of the pricey $300 to buy the device, I would pass.

OURA requires a $5.99/month subscription to unlock features on their Gen3 ring.

Happy Ring is even worse in the subscription department.

I’m waiting for EVIE which has the same features, is clinically validated and has NO subscription.

And Apple Watch does it for free, too.

It’s an absolute way of extracting more money from you is an American US brainwashing people and getting excited to buy something that you can have an alternative and free,I consider once you buy an expensive product it should not be asking for a subscription,otherwise buy something else as there is lots of similar products out there!

Yes, it does. Without a membership you have access to your sleep score, readiness score, and activity score.
