I’ve never had it without the subscription, but with subscription it lasts for days and days without any charge. Admittedly, I’ve never pushed it to its limits. I got in the habit of putting it on the charger for roughly twenty minutes per night while I get ready for bed and that keeps it from 75% to nearly fully charged charged. Hope that helps provide some insight.

A fully charged ring may last up to seven days. As you suggested, battery life and longevity can vary depending on the age of your ring and how often you use certain features such as Workout Heart Rate, the Explore tab, or Blood Oxygen Sensing. 
All rechargeable batteries are consumables and have a limited lifespan, so their capacity and performance will gradually decline over time.
