If you have steering wheel controls and a JBL system, it is absolutely necessary. It will retain those features and provide reverse wire and parking brake signals for your aftermarket radio. If you don't have steering wheel controls or JBL and don't need a reverse signal (required for reverse camera activation), you can use a basic wiring harness.
