“i'm new to the recording game and i read that this camera can record more than 30 minutes. does that happen with the battery alone or does it need to be connected to a/c power? and do i need anything more than a sd card, and if so, what size?”

I like the camera, you do need an SD Card (I use 64g card), And I get about two hours on the Battery and AC good until you fill the card Fills up. Also you may want to consider a tripod for steady shots.
