I actually use both the telephone company's provided voice mail and the Panasonic recorded message feature. Calls that come in when I am on the phone go to voice mail and the rest are picked up on the phone's recorder after four rings (adjustable). The phone sits in a cradle at about 45 degrees. If you hang the base unit on the wall, it is not as secure.
