No, the dimmer is essentially a standalone remote control that comes with a mounting plate that is magnetic. You can mount it on the wall or you could just set the remote control on a table. You can use the remote control to turn the lights on and off and control the dimming function. You can also use it to scroll through various light settings.

The remote is a magnet that sticks to the plate and can be grabbed off the take on the go and it’s battery powered but last a long time.
