If you already have a Smartthings hub or a compatible hub from another brand, you only need the light bulb. But if you don't own a hub, either you buy Philips one (but it's only doing light stuff), either you buy a smartthings hub or a nest etc... The bulb works also as conventional lamps so it can switch on and off by your wall switch but ni that case you won't be able to dim it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need to have a Phillips Bridge before you can control the lights with your apps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you need their "Bridge" for any of the Phillips bulbs to work remotely. They will light up of course but the reason you would even buy this bulb is for the wireless on & off feature. You can only buy it as a kit. 1st or 2nd gen Bridge devices will work. Dependent on the bulb set you buy (white/color). Each kit includes bridge and 2 bulbs (white) or 3 bulbs (color). The color bulbs are $59 each compared to the White $15. Plus, bridge along with bulbs will work with Amazon's popular device Echo aka Alexa.
