When Hue first came out, there was a work-around that let you add other bulbs that were zig-bee compatible, like the GE and the Cree. Philips removed this functionality not long after the Hue system became popular with a firmware update about a year ago. If you have an automation hub like Smartthings or Instanon, different bulbs will "work together" as a whole automation system. The Hue hub will only handle the Hue bulbs part of the automation scheme.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have not yet used a GE bulb with my 2nd Gen Hue Bridge and Google Home, but it is my understanding that the GE bulb will work on this hub. I have only just started playing with all this - you know the Christmas gift (Google Home) that ends up costing you money. From an article or two that I found - at one point Philips had blocked 3rd party bulbs, but quickly did a reversal of that.- and one article specifically said that the GE bulbs worked with the Hue system. Also, the GE bulbs are supposed to be a bit cheaper and with slightly higher lumen output, but also with a higher kelvin temp - so they are not as a warm white. Good luck .
