A hub can connect smart thermostat, locks, and lights by using an app, you can then use your smartphone or tablet.as a remote to control these devices. The starter kit includes the Hue Bridge so you can pair this bulb via the Philips Hue App. Not sure but I believed Philips is not offering BR30 starter kit only A19 bulbs. You will need a Philips Hue Bridge, Philips Hue App, smartphone or tablet for the BR30.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The hub is a module that is hard wired to your router. Then the hub is able to communicate with your lights and light strips through an app that needs to be downloaded onto your smartphone, ipad or computer.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You have to have a hub to operate the system. You can control up to 50 lights on one hub. If you have more, no problem, just add another hub. The system works great and we love it! Hope that helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You have to have a hub of some sort. I use my Apple TV 4thgn. You can buy the package that has four starter bulbs and hub for like $100. But to control your lights, and set them up, they have to connect to a hub.
