Yes, these would be the front channel in your situation. Even just these and a receiver would be far superior to tv speakers. Ideally these plus a center channel, 2 surround speakers and a subwoofer would rock your house down for movies and music. GL you are stepping into a fun hobby, you can take it as far as you want, e.g. Some speakers cost over 20k a pair. These speakers in the 5.1 ( has these plus 4 other pieces ) package are like 599 or something and they will rumble your house down if you want.

That is in front of you. you can add the Book shelf speakers and put both Direclty behind you. The Sound will be Awsome. For you receiber the onkyo tr-nx 646 is a great addition and for subwoofer go with the elac sq10 this is a killer budget home theater for the price.
