Yes, these would be the front channel in your situation. Even just these and a receiver would be far superior to tv speakers. Ideally these plus a center channel, 2 surround speakers and a subwoofer would rock your house down for movies and music. GL you are stepping into a fun hobby, you can take it as far as you want, e.g. Some speakers cost over 20k a pair. These speakers in the 5.1 ( has these plus 4 other pieces ) package are like 599 or something and they will rumble your house down if you want.

For you receiber the onkyo tr-nx 646 is a great addition and for subwoofer go with the elac sq10 this is a killer budget home theater for the price.
