Let me say there are A LOT of options for floor speakers out there. Kiplish, Polk, Bose, Pioneer, Yamaha, and the list goes on. After reading many Many MANY reviews, I was pending towards these Pioneers because (1) audio-experts were reviewing how detailed the sound from those is (despite not being that bassy), and (2) it's price is unbeatable among the other brands - many of the others cost over twice!!! And so I went for it, and boy I am AMAZED by those babies. I hooked them on my Yamaha RX-V465 and they are impressive. Music and definition is excellent, from hard rock, punk rock, techno, all the way to classical, Piano and Cello. The mids and highs of those speakers are excellent, piano and classical listening is simply a great experience. Home theather usage is excellent too, and if you have a good source they do sound how real-life sounds should. If you are a subwoofer junky (as I am) you will notice that it does lack bass as everybody says, but their speakers are small, so no surprise here as they are not designed to go low (from ear, I'd say they go down to 55hz well). But then a small equalization compensates it easily, and honestly you might not even need a subwoofer, as the sound is so well balanced. I've always been a subwoofer junky and I am having the best time with these for many months now without a subwoofer, so I strongly recommend those. Aesthetically I was a little unsure if they were nice (the picture in the site is not great), but I was positively pleased when I unwrapped it: it's very elegant and nice looking. Connectors are of good quality too. Kudos for Pioneer for designing and selling this awesome product with such a good price. I was so pleased with these that I bought another pair a few months later, so now I have 4 :) R-E-C-O-M-M-E-N-D-E-D !!!

What’s the buzz? Tell me what it’s all about….

What’s the buzz? Tell me what it’s all about… ‘cause it ain’t these speakers Andrew Jones took a page from Denon electronics and Pioneer car co-axials to make these not-even-good-first-effort floor-standing speakers. I have been running an audio retail store since 1968 and have sold just about every brand ever made, so, I know my sound. And when I got these Pioneer SP-FS 52 speaker systems that have such rave reviews and the design heritage of Andrew Jones, I expected a lot. I spent weeks breaking them in. And when I tested and listened to them, I wondered, “What’s the buzz?” The sound reminds me of the typical Denon electronic sound: too smooth, but complete – unlike the overall harshness of Harmon Kardon or the gutless sound of Yamaha. And when I did my laboratory testing, I found the design was typical car stereo - the tweeter covers one-third octave and the woofer is forced to unnaturally make up the difference. The sad part is that Pioneer and Andrew Jones came so close to making a phenomenal speaker. I guess he was forced to make compromises to reach a price point – a problem I have found in too many speaker manufacturers that make one great speaker, and then force the designer to make a whole line around it that is full of compromises to reach price points. Hey, Pioneer, let me finish the job that Andrew began. It won’t be that hard. And once I’m through, your customers will say, music is “…what it’s all about. The overall sound is pleasant but not engaging, except in one case. Recordings • CLAIRE MARLO • LET IT GO: Do You Love Me and Let It Go. • THE NOTTING HILLBILLIES, missing … … presumed to having a good time : Your Own Sweet Way and Will You Miss Me • CLARK TERRY, Portraits: PENNIES FROM HEAVEN • ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH, JOHN DENVER: Late Winter, Early Spring • Bill Whelen, Riverdance: Real Around the Sun and CAOINEADH CU CHULAINN After listening to these recordings, I realize that the music reproduced by these SP-FS 52 loudspeakers is like listening to live music through that proverbial blanket – boring, but not irritating… except one. CAOINEADH CU CHULAINN was phenomenal because these speakers are primarily a midrange loudspeaker, i.e. a better Bose 901. What these Pioneer speakers will do is increase ticket sales to live performances because they give a taste of music, but only a taste. Equipment used in this review • An acoustically treated room that among other treatments use ASC • Oppo BDP-83 CD player • Rogue Audio Titan Magnus Metis Preamplifier, modified • Parasound Halo A-23 power amp • Transparent Audio PowerLink AC power cord • Transparent Audio The Link RCA Interconnects • Kimber Kable 4TC speaker wire, modified • DRM Stage II SW Reference Loudspeaker system

I was extremely skeptical of these speakers after purchasing the Andrew Jones sound bar and bluetooth subwoofer combo that came out a little while back. That thing sounded terrible and was immediately returned. I was looking for a new pair of speakers in the less than $500 range and these kept coming up. I decided to go to Best Buy and give them a listen. In the store, they were nothing that great, but sounded OK. I figured they had a crummy MP3 file playing through them and I would never know what they really sounded like till I brought them home. So I pulled the trigger and just bought a pair of them. I have to say, when I got them home and fired them up I was very pleasantly surprised at how great they sounded! They had very rich sound, a ton of bass even without using a subwoofer and the highs, mid's, and lows were all very well represented in the overall sound. I have them hooked up to a Marantz PM5005 Amplifier. MP3 type stuff sounds very good, TV/movie audio sounds amazing, where I was really blown away was running some vinyl through these. They blew me away and I was totally sold on them. I wouldn't say these are a true "audiophile" speaker as some people have said. But I would bet you would not be able to find anything in this price range that sounded better. If you are on the fence about these, definitely take a set home and try them out. Not sure how they would be on a lower end receiver, but on my Marantz they sounded amazing!

My motto is if you are not an expert, then ask one. When C-Net says something like best speaker for under a thousand dollars, and Audiobics gives it a rave review, and the host of the Home Theater Geeks Podcast interviews Andrew Jones and compliments him on the speakers he designed; all this on a $124 dollar speaker? You have to feel good about your purchase. I bought these without even hearing them first. These would not have been in some Magnolia sound room anyway and what are you going to be able to tell about how a speaker is going to sound in your home listening to it in a warehouse store anyway? Even with the raves reviews I wasn't entirely prepared for the build quality and sound of these speakers. I have the matching center channel ($69) and it is an amazing value. From the specs these would seem to be a little power hungry but I am driving them with a Denon rated at 90 watts p/channel and it is no problem at all. I was really impressed with the centers ability to clearly articulate dialog even at lower volumes. As for the towers I did some listening in 2.0 and the bass handling seemed fine , but I have a 10" inch sub so why bother? Bottom line if I had paid 3 times the price I would have still been happy with them. One word of caution- pay attention to the dimensions given In the specs, the center didn't fit in my tv stand. This was all for the good as it forced me to look for another. I bought a 65" inch plasma and the stand I had was cheap and to small for it.

For the past almost 10 years I have been running small satellite speakers for all three of my home theater setups. I never knew how much sound I was missing out on until I bought these. I went back and forth about purchasing more expensive ones from Klipsch or Pioneer Elites, but the more I researched these Pioneer Andrew Jones the more I chose to take a leap of faith on them without even hearing them. For the rave reviews they get and the cheap price, how could I not at least bring them home and try them out? I'm so happy I did because I hear things now I never heard before as I'm re-watching all my Blu-rays again. They are also quite beefy in not only the sound department, but in stature too. Love them! I added the Dolby Atmos top firing speakers to them as well and I love watching movies now. It has become my favorite past time. You can see how they are paired with my 4K set up with everything I have here http://whysoblu.com/4k-sony-xbr65x930d-samsung-ubd-k8500-review/

If you are on a budget and dead set on a quality sounding music/home theater setup, look no further these andrew jones speakers are awesome. The sound is engaging you can loose yourself in your music or movies the high's are good and the base is just right they are that good. Build quality is good but they are bulky and only come in black. If your'e main focus is home theater i would go with 3 of these floor standing speakers for your 3 front channels, it gives better uniformity (center speaker is good but when it is action packed movie it tends to get a little throaty not much but noticeable) for my sorround speakers the bookshelves pair up with these towers very well but avoid the sub it is not up to par with the rest of the line up ,For the price you can't get anything better. Also these tend to do great in a small to medium size room they are more than capable of filling that space with powerfull rich sound, but in large rooms it can leave you wanting more ( hey for the price you can't have everything) if you have a large room i would go for the andrew jones elac debut series, but if you have a regular size room these are your speakers. Pros. Exelent price, sound, build Cons. None has of yet.

Great stereo pair for small home theater

I purchased a pair of these speakers from Best Buy on 08/19/2013. The Pioneer SP-FS52 speakers were installed in a bedroom system. They replaced a pair of Audioengine P4s on 24-inch stands, which are themselves pretty nice speakers, just a little small for handling the dynamics for watching TV and movies. I hooked them up using 14-gauge wire with banana plugs. These speakers will accept bananas, but you must unscrew the terminal collar and removed the small plastic red and black plugs. The European Union specifies that round plugs on 3/4-inch centers (like banana plugs) be blocked to keep someone from accidentally plugging a speaker into a wall electrical outlet. The SP-FS52s were mounted on 12-inch stands to bring them up to a more suitable height for a 42-inch HDTV. After a week of (what I suspect was unnecessary) burn-in, these speakers sound great! There's a little more treble extension now, a more fully-developed midrange (dialog is much more understandable) and a LOT more bass extension than what I had with the P4s. I'm extremely happy with these speakers, as I suspected I would be, having purchased the previous versions of the Andrew Jones designs (SP-BS-41-LR fronts, SP-C21 center, SP-BS21-LR surrounds and SW-8 subwoofer, all also purchased from Best Buy) for my living room home theater system. Before purchasing a pair of these SP-FS52s, I had enjoyed a pair of Pioneer floor standing speakers (with 12" woofers) for 26 years! Finally showing their age, it was time to replace them. I discovered these after some extensive research. Not the least expensive speakers in this class, they're still quite a bargain. First, the description on Best Buy's site doesn't say it, but these are part of the Andrew Jones collection, designed by Pioneer's chief speaker engineer. They feature two 5-1/4" woofers, a 5-1/4" midrange, and a 1" tweeter The rear features two bass ports for a tasty low end. Connections are bare wire to gold plated screws - no banana plugs. Like any good speaker, they should be listened to at moderate volume for several hours (to break them in) before cranking your audio or judging their sound. Those who don't believe in breaking in speakers, have faith and try it. You will definitely notice the difference. I also purchased the matching SW-8MK2 subwoofer and SP-C22 center channel. Two reasons to purchase from Best Buy: You can test them in the store, and the price was right (didn't even need to ask for a price match). Bottom line: amazing sounding speakers for those on a budget, well built, and with Pioneer, you know what you're getting.

I bought a pair of these speakers to replace an old set of 3-way 12" Pioneer floor speakers that I have had for years. I needed something with a smaller footprint but was worried about giving up the bass that the larger speakers provided. As expected, I did lose the base output with these as compared to the old 12" speakers however the clarity of these compared to the others is far superior. I added in the 8" powered sub also made by Pioneer and now have a system that sounds 10x better than the previous. For an entry level system, these speakers with the added 8" powered sub would be hard to beat both in sound and price.

I have to say I was surprised when I listened to these speakers in the store, and then at home. Pioneer has done a great job with the design and sound of these speakers, especially at the price. These are medium-efficiency speakers that work very well as either music-only or home theater speakers. They are tall towers but have a small foot print, which makes for easy placement. They are ported in the rear, so proper placement will be very important for best bass response. DO NOT place them too close to the wall behind them or in a corner or the bass will be uncontrolled, boomy, and muddy. Experimenting with placement will be required to obtain the most balanced sound. At 87 dB, they are medium efficient, so make sure your receiver or amplifier has enough power. I have used these speakers in a music-only and home theater configuration and am very please with the results. High frequencies are not shrill or shreaky and....again, when placed properly....mids and lows are nice and well-controlled.

I've been enjoying these speakers for a few months now. They replaced the Pioneer FS-51's, which I enjoyed, but these are a step up in my opinion. What strikes me as the biggest improvement over the 51's are the highs in the 52's. They have more crisp, less veiled highs. This creates a more involving sound overall for me. Still, the highs aren't too harsh like some speakers sound to me. I'm pretty sensitive to highs, and these are pleasant to my ears. The mids and bass sound good too... the mids seem a bit more pronounced than the 51's, and the lows more prominent though still not boomy or muddy sounding. This is a very good speaker for the price. Very well balanced sound. I use them primarily for listening to music. I spend a lot of time listening to music, and most of the time it's serious listening...not just background noise. They might not be reference level speakers, but they're very detailed and involving. For the price you really can't come close to them.

I've been rocking a small set of bookshelf speakers in a 2.0 setup for a few years. I kept hearing about these on various forums regarding the sound quality for it's price range. While walking around Best Buy on Black Friday Weekend, we spotted these on sale for just $77 a piece. That was an offer I couldn't refuse. They arrived far ahead of the estimated ship date which was awesome. After wiring them up I could finally hear what I'd been missing. They put out great sound. Vocals are clear and it has enough low end that you could get by without adding a sub in the mix. Perfect for apartment dwellers like myself. A few days later I spotted the matching SP-C22 Center Channel on sale and pulled the trigger. So far my 3.0 Andrew Jones Pioneer setup has been a dream. It's way more fun listening to music and watching movies. They are a tad on the bulky side, and the center could give you some issues with placement, but for what you're getting with these towers I couldn't recommend them more as an entry level ticket to home theater greatness.

GENERAL I have a pair of these in a 360 sq ft theater room. I have them set up paired with the matching center and two bookshelf speaker (will be adding two more to get 7.1). Having spent a lot of money on a projector and screen money was very tight. These speakers came out on sale at frys which Amazon price matched and I decided to give BB a call to see if they would price match as well. They did. Got them same day with store pick up and I get points. SOUND WOW. I paid around $400 for 2 FS, 2 Pair Bookshelf, 1 Center. I have only 1 Pair of BS set up right now and I was blown away. I have a large room and needed great and BALANCED sound. these easily compete with a set worth twice its value. If you're not a hardcore audiophile and are looking to start somewhere this is it. Look no further. FYI my setup is paired with Klipsch Reference 12 sub and Denon AVR.

I purchased 2 pair of these SP-FS52, the center channel SP-C22 and a pair of the rear bookshelf speakers SP-BS22-LR along with the Pioneer Elite VSX-LX301 receiver and a pair of 100 watt subs SW-8mk. After wiring all this up in a 12X16 room It was time to turn it on. Sound was spectacular. Made some speaker placement adjustments and did the microphone test. After that it sounded even better. After about 30 hours to listening at low levels I finally cranked it up. The receiver pumps out massive power and this 7.2 system is more than I expected. Everything is on point. I watched one of my favorites Saving Private Ryan I knew the 1,500 plus dollars I spent with Best Buy was the best purchase I made in 2016. I recommend any and all these Pioneer Andrew Jones designed speakers and subs to anyone on a budget or not. Great sound quality and the value is unbelievable.

Since August, I've been working and tweaking on a 3 channel and subwoofer sound system using Pioneer speakers developed by Andrew Jones, starting out with the bookshelf speakers and first one, then 2 subwoofers. My only previous experience with sound systems was a Sony Soundbar, and after months of using and rearranging the speakers around, I finally decided to go ahead and purchase a pair of these tower speakers. My God what a DIFFERENCE! Bigger and more powerful soundstage, and I didn't feel the need to keep my subwoofers. These have converted me, from now on, I will have only 3.0 setup for my television from now on. Those with hometheaters will want subwoofers I'm sure, but for my living room setup, the two towers will be more than enough for music and movies and tv shows. Going to keep the bookshelves for a future turntable/cd player setup, and I am going to sell the subwoofers.

When I was checking out speakers I just kept going to the next more expensive set as they sounded better. Eventually I was listening to $1000 each B&W speakers. I even brought my wife down to listen. She thought the B&W's sounded great too. Then I came back to reality and thought about all the great reviews for these speakers. I could always return them. So I pulled the trigger. I am very happy with my purchase. These guys kick butt. Great presence and sound stage. Nice low end too. I could have spent lots more, but I'm happy and have money left over to enjoy life. No regrets whatsoever. So why only 4 stars? Because the B&W's were the 5 star speakers. But I give the Pioneer's the extra star for the amazing budget price.

I had a Samsung soundbar for years that I used to power my home theater audio, it was loud enough but the quality of the sound was lacking, and it only had 1 HDMI port that quit working years ago, which forced me to use the Optic and switch it out every time i switched viewing devices. I decided instead of replacing the sound bar I would purchase a receiver and 2 of these, as well as a cheap center channel i got from Goodwill. The sound out of these with the SONY STRDH550 is awesome! Great soundtracks plenty of bass (not as loud as a woofer, but my wife always tells me to turn it down anyways) and the speaking is incredible. If you want to spend $500 on sound you can't beat this combination with any soundbar/woofer setup. Also music sounds incredible through these as to be expected.

Yes you read that right , go google the reviews of these speakers and you will see and read what the reviews stated when they first came out. Very large soundscape and they will require some horsepower to make them sing. I had them hooked up to a Integra DRX2.1 and they didnt hum like they should. I switched out the DRX for a Yamaha 105W per channel and they like the larger current. I then hooked them into an ADCOM 100 x2 amp and they really came alive since the ADCOM has a huge power supply and can control the drivers better. For the price , buy them , play them , and enjoy that you have a world class speaker for a tenth of the price.

I got tired of trying to listen to real music over a surround sound speaker system so I went shopping. I had my eye on some ridiculously priced speakers by another brand, but when I listened to these in the store I couldn't hear nearly $200 in difference between these and the other "premium" speakers. I listen to vinyl, CDs and digital music in my home with these speakers (I do have an inexpensive sub) and I am very pleased with the full, rich sound. They look great and don't take up a lot of space. I'd say they have good bass, but you're probably not going to be happy with them by themselves... the sub gives everything a bit more punch. I'd recommend these to anyone who wants to upgrade their sound without going into debt!

I read a lot of reviews around these speakers and they did not lie, for an entry line speaker they sound amazing. I went to the best buy store to test them out and they had them next to other speakers 3-5times the price of these and they sounded like horrible, but when i got home and hooked them up they sounded better than the other speakers. You cant always trust how things look/sound at the store because they are not configured properly and they can make other speakers sound better/worse depending on what they want to sell more of. I love these speakers and will definitely be buying another pair for the family room.
