“so im in the process of building a home theater. if I set this up receiver up only can i hook just a soundbar for the time being? Meaning just using a set of rca plugs or optical to run the soundbar. I realize it would not be really getting used.”

Yes but you a should just go straight to the tv with the sound bar until your ready to use the receiver.. ether way you'll be fine
