“In two channel mode, does it support subwoofer also? I have a 7.1.2 system, but sometimes I want to listen to just the two towers in front with the sub. My Sony does not support this.”

Yes it does. Set front speakers in crossover settings to small and it will play front speakers with subs in stereo mode. You can also set the fronts to large in crossover settings but turn on double bass feature to play sub and fronts set to full range.
