“Why doesn't Best Buy do a sign up list for purchasing the PS5 console? At least you'd know in 2-3 months you're going to get a system. This would be a much better way than always letting Bots buy up all the gaming systems only to resell them.”

I think that system would result in groups of scalpers being able to use multiple accounts to buy out the waiting lists. Also, I don't believe they want to promise more consoles than they can reliably count on receiving. Almost every system has its drawbacks. Best Buy has been using a timed double-click add to cart function to combat bots. I do agree that an in-store sign up list would be the best solution though (would probably have to be limited to a few consoles per store though).
