Yes, the game has its own map and you walk the character around with the controller. Does not require GPS and you do not have to walk the game around like Pokemon Go.

Regular joycon controllers, pro controller, and new pokeball controller all work with the game. I recommend the new pokeball controller. Adds a new way to play and comes with a FREE Mew inside! Only way to get Mew by the way!

You can do everything with the controller. You do NOT flick the ball like you do with the mobile version. (I'm not sure if you "can" play that way. I've been playing strictly with the console and not with an external controller or joy-cons.

If you’re playing on a tv you move about the game with the joy stick on the controller, but to catch Pokémon you need to flick the joy con. If you play on the switch screen you can move the device around to help you better catch a Pokémon, but all other moving about and catching is done with buttons on the controller. Hope this helped:)
