You don't need to return it for the next photo. I think it has something to do with the packet of paper that you are loading. They are all probably from different batches and the bar code tells the camera what batch. I'm just guessing on this though.

The bar code paper is so the camera knows there is legitimate fuji paper in the camera. As long as you don't open the camera to load more paper you will not need the barcode sheet.
