With a game controller mounted in the cradle and charging it is 4 1/8" high from the base to the top of the mounted controller. However the cradle has a spring loaded contact seat where the controller mounts so you need room to lift the controller up and off. I'd give it 5" minimum to be safe.

Please do not speculate at an answer that could easily be obtained by measuring the actual device with a controller attached. It is not difficult to measure this combination of devices. A tape measure, ruler, yard stick, or other measuring instrument might be used to obtain an actual dimension rather than a series of answers whose range is as large as the controller is tall. If anyone actually has an answer to this question, I would still love to hear it. But in the mean time, I think I will just by the thing and stick it in my space and return it if necessary.. Which I suppose I should have done from the start. This function of the Best Buy website could be cool if people had actual information.
