Do you put water in it for smoke null

Yes you need to add 2 cups of water to the water tray as per the instructions. It works in conjunction with the fan and the lid to keep the smoke inside the unit.

There are wholes in the drip pan directly over the water tray. However, given the shape and position of the water tray relative to the fan, the water may be involved with the smoke reduction system.

You do put water in it, for cooling purposes I believe.
