The unit does not have an adjustable stride, it is as the website says for vertical rise and horizontal run. If you are a very short person, it is still comfortable in the sense that you can elevated one foot flat and the other extend down with the toe, as if walking stairs. If you are tall, you can full stride any way you want. I'm 6'2", my wife is about 5'10", neither of us have issues striding. I love this machine and try to exercise for at least 3 miles every other day, the machine itself makes so easy, especially the iFit!

This unit is unique in the fact that it allows you to travel both vertically and horizontally which helps to burn more calories and build more strength.
