will this work with a playstation 3 null

Honestly I don’t know - I’d order a remote that is made for PS3. I bought this remote to work a Sony DVD/VCR it gave me limited functions only like play/stop/rewind and FF. That was fine, I ordered a original remote on eBay and was waiting for that. This remote gave me the ease of doing simple things like pausing from the couch. No menu functions . Good basic remote.
