• You need access to power so that the antenna signal is stronger.

• If you have the amplified antenna, it does need to be plugged in to work.

• You could attach the antenna (the square thing in the photo) directly to the TV but, if you don't want the amp, RCA sells the same antenna without one.

• You can, but why purchase the package with the amplifier? RCA sells the antenna without the amplifier.

• You need the power adapter that it comes with. Just connect it in the order the directions or you could burn it out!
