Yes you can have a gen 1 alarm and install gen 2 sensors to the alarm system. They use the same z wave to connect to the base. The sensors are just smaller now.

You can mix and match 1st and 2nd generation Ring Alarm Contact Sensors, Motion Detectors, Range Extenders, Keypads and third-party devices with any Ring Alarm Base Station.
