You will want to mount this to an existing junction box which should be there already as you need power. You do need to mount it to a flat surface in order to ensure the best resistance to water entry. Depending on what you actually have you may need a spacer (2nd junction box) or small flat piece of wood maybe to get it to be as water resistant as possible.
