Depends on your needs. If you are placing it where an existing light is, then you can likely do it yourself. We had an electrician install one of ours since a new line had to be run to the location where we wished to place it.

Since neither worked right, I took them out and now have the wiring in place for some other type of security lighting for the future.

Just turn off the power remove the existing light and hook up the new one per the instructions. If you have no electricity where you want to install it then I would say yes. The unit requires electricity to operate.
