You give each camera a name. I call mine "front door" and "garage". When the camera senses motion, it updates the central web site through your WiFi which pushes an alert to your phone via the Internet. Your phone makes an audible sound and vibrates to let you know. The whole thing takes less than a second or two. Hope this information satisfied your thirst for knowledge.

You load the free app to your phone, when the camera alerts to motion, it sends both audible ring to your phone and a readable message stating your camera gives location or name you gave it has sensed motion. The motion sensitivity is also programmable. The loudness you set via your phone audible level. Very nice cameras.
