You get to set it. But I do find it is more sensitive than I was imagining it would be.

I think it is about 50 ft. To avoid excessive detection, you can adjust range from your phone or tablet to shorten it. You can also zoom into pictures of distant objects like cars, animals, people. Look at product specs to be sure or ask manufacture. I am adding another camera for different perspective.
