I installed mine by myself in less that 20 minutes. It come with a battery and a micro usb cable. You can use any micro usb cable to charge. If you can replace a standard doorbell you can install this!

After you purchase the device there are no other fees. However the option to add extra features like saving/ accesing vidoes for longer amounts of time, or having the ability to use live view any time in my opinion is totally worth the $3 monthly fee., and is actually slightly cheaper than that if you pay annually. There is also an added level of device protection/ troubleshooting help with the monthly fee
