If you have an existing, powered doorbell, you can wire it to that power source. If not, it has a rechargeable battery (USB charging cord included) which they say will last a year depending on activity. It then operates wirelessly.

The Ring doorbell can either be installed hardwired or by battery operated. Though using the battery you will have to replace it every 5-6 months or less depending on usage.

Basic requirements are that you have a way to recharge the built-in battery in the doorbell/camera unit itself, and that you have wifi speed enough for uploading notifications to your phone.It does not require wired electrical service, but without a former doorbell system being replaced you'll need to occasionally remove the doorbell (very easily) and with the included USB cord; recharge the battery which lasts a very long time. If you can charge a phone and have good wifi you can use a RING system
