• You can just mount it. It runs on rechargeablebattery, and alert via smartphone or tablet through the app. If you want to hear it besides your phone, you need to buy the chime.

• Hi Emily, Great question. If you would like to hardwire your Ring Video Doorbell, then you will need to have a pre-existing doorbell to hardwire it to. If you do not, however, have an already existing doorbell, you can go with the battery operated version which does not require any pre-existing wires.
