Not sure; but the customer service for RING is excellent. They will be able to answer that. I have a Netgear unit as my "hotspot" and it works great. As far as the data consumption, that will depend on your settings. You can set it to video frequently or less. I have both of mine on frequent and my data consumption is very low. It is not an issue at all with me. I hope this helps.

Please try again later.probably not best to use with a hotspot since its constantly connected to the internet unless you have unlimited data and that hotspot is always on. not sure how much data it uses but, whenever it senses motion/someone rings the doorbell it automatically records.
