I also had only an inch surface where my doorbell was. I had to move the new Ring off the door molding and put it to the right on the house itself. It looks fine and is not too far away but I had to putty and paint the area where the old doorbell was. Also it is not hardwired now which is a disappointment. I have to charge the battery now and then.
