Hello Harry, If you've hardwired your battery-operated Ring Video doorbell, you may wonder why your battery may occasionally need to still be recharged. Unlike a purely hardwired Ring doorbell such as the Ring Doorbell Pro, a battery-operated doorbell does not use the electricity generated by the hardwire to power its regular operations. Instead, it uses the provided rechargeable battery to do all of its regular operations like ring, detect motion, and generate a Live View. The charge from the hardwiring supplies a trickle-charge to the battery. As a result, depending on what functions the doorbell is performing, the battery may drain faster than the hardwiring charge can keep up with. Please try again later.the technical answer is yes, the realistic answer is not unless you limit the amount of activity you're monitoring for. hard wiring will NOT charge the battery fast enough to maintain frequent monitoring with 100% motion sensitivity (I've found that the camera will fail to detect most people walking up to the doorbell without frequent monitoring and 100% sensitivity).

As the temperature drops, these batteries begin to have trouble holding a charge and if it gets cold enough, they'll stop working altogether. As a result, at certain temperatures, the batteries in your Ring device may run out of power faster than expected and may need to be recharged more often. Another important factor in Ring’s battery life is whether it is wired to another source of power such as an existing powered doorbell chime. Ring battery-powered devices are run off the batteries, not off of the external power source. The external power sources are used to recharge the batteries and cannot power the device. When the temperature drops below 0 degrees Celsius, the battery will stop accepting the external charge and may run out of power. Important temperatures The following are key temperatures to watch out for in regards to your batteries. 36°F (3°C): The battery may not hold a charge as effectively, resulting in you having to charge the unit more frequently. 32°F (0°C): The battery may not charge at all. Even hardwired configurations may not charge the battery. -5°F (-20.5°C): The battery may stop working completely until temperatures warm up. What to do when it gets cold Bring your device inside: When it gets cold and your device's battery runs out, bring your entire device inside and charge the battery with a USB cord. However, extmtreme alerts will deplete the battery at a faster rate then it can charge the battery . So , you may have to take the battery out of the unit and hook it up to the USB charger . If this is the case it is best to have a second battery pack plugged into the home usb and ready to go, just to swap out to have uninterrupted service.
