You have to remove the security screws holding the item to the door and take inside and charge overnight with a normal USB cable. Security screws securing product to wall are small and easily stripped, so be careful removing them.

I just unhook it from the wall, and plug it into my computer to recharge. I have yet had to do it and we have had it over a month.

Loosen the screws at bottom and remove. I take it inside to and recharge with a USB. The charge last me about 4 months.

If you do not have it connected to a power source you will need to use the USB/mini USB cable provided with the doorbell

I have only had mine for a little over a month and have not had to charge it yet. Going by the instructions and the youtube videos you have to remove the unit from the mount.
Connect the supplied usb cable and the reinstall the unit onto its mount. To my understanding the initial charge out of the box could last up to a year.
