You will need the internet to update the system which you HAVE to do. you don't need it to use the dvr but you can only see guide data that is provided from the tv stations broadcasting live. There is no future program data at all. To record shows you will have to set it up like a vcr, recording by time and date alone.

Without the internet how else will you stream? Unless you are talking local channels. Then you need a digital antenna. You won't need the internet.
