I am having the same issue wanting to install in a built in cabinet and need the are to extend out beyond my 22 in depth. Have you gotten a straight answer? Response to your question that I read said she thought it would only extend out maybe 20 inches.

I would say it extends about 16-20 inches. It extends far enough i can extend it all the want and tilt each side of my 65 inch tv enough to touch the corners of the tv on the wall.
