The mount tilts down, but from what I can tell, if you start in a straight on position, it doesn't tilt up. Tilting it down allows you to place the TV higher than you might otherwise want it to be. I'm not sure of a scenario where you'd need to tilt it up. I attached a picture showing the TV, on this mount, with a slight downward tilt. I hope that helps.
